I'm Amara — a fine art photographer based in Asheville, North Carolina. For more than a decade I have photographed weddings, families, and brands across the Blue Ridge Mountains and far beyond, with a quiet, documentary eye and a deep devotion to natural light.

The Story

A life behind the lens

I first picked up a camera to document climbing trips with friends. It became something I couldn't put down. After years spent photographing weddings on weekends while working in brand marketing, I left in 2014 to devote myself to photography — and to building the kind of studio I would want to hire.

My work is guided by a simple belief: the most beautiful photographs are the true ones. I direct gently when it serves the light or the moment, but I am always searching for the unguarded laugh, the glance across a room, the feeling of a day as it really was.

I accept a limited number of commissions each year so that every client receives my complete attention, from our first conversation to the day your album arrives. When I'm not photographing, you'll find me hiking in the Pisgah National Forest or slowly restoring a century-old farmhouse.

  1. Documentary at heart

    Most of what I capture is unposed. I'll guide when it's useful — for light, for flow, for family portraits — but real moments always come first.

    Every timeline and session is planned around natural light. It is the single greatest influence on how a photograph feels.

  3. Quietly present

    Calm, discreet direction and no awkward posing lists. Most clients tell me they forgot I was there — until they saw the gallery.

  4. Made to last

    Archival printing, hand-bound albums, and colour work that will look as good in forty years as it does today.
